Your document should not disappear into a black box.
MessyFile combines automated conversion or extraction with a required human approval step. This page explains the safeguards currently in place, their limits, and what customers should not submit.
Human approval gate
Paid output is not delivered automatically merely because a converter produced a file. A reviewer must approve the result. Missing, suspicious, or low-confidence output is stopped for correction, rescoping, rejection, or refund handling.
Private delivery
Approved output is delivered through a unique private link. A private link is not the same as end-to-end encryption; customers should still limit submissions to the information necessary for the job.
Source preservation and reprocessing
The original is stored separately during processing so a failed attempt can be investigated or reprocessed without relying on an expired intake link. Reprocessing does not change the source file.
Outside service providers
MessyFile uses providers for intake, conversion, AI-assisted extraction, hosting and private storage, email, analytics, and payments. Documents are shared only with providers needed for the requested service. Direct format conversion is not replaced by document summarization.
Payment separation
Stripe handles checkout and card information. MessyFile does not ask customers to place payment-card numbers inside documents, quote descriptions, or email.
Analytics limits
PostHog measures page visits and selected campaign actions. Session replay, automatic content capture, uploaded-document capture, form-field capture, and payment-card capture are disabled.
Retention and deletion
Files and job records may be retained during processing and for a limited period afterward for delivery, support, security, and necessary business records. Customers may request deletion at john@messyfile.com, subject to legal and operational retention requirements.
Authorization
Customers must own submitted files or have authority to process them. Password-protected or restricted documents require a custom review; MessyFile does not accept work intended to bypass another person's lawful access controls.
Do not submit without express written acceptance
Passwords, authentication secrets, full payment-card numbers, Social Security numbers, government identification numbers, medical records, or unrelated sensitive personal information. Redact unnecessary information before requesting a feasibility check.
Current limits
- No claim of perfect OCR, pixel-perfect Word reconstruction, or error-free extraction.
- No public claim of HIPAA, SOC 2, PCI, legal-discovery, or other specialized certification.
- Consequential financial, tax, legal, or medical figures require the customer's qualified verification.
- Handwriting, severe damage, changing layouts, and highly sensitive records may be declined.
